High Peaks Dental was established in 1978 by Dr. Michael O’Connor and has been providing general dentistry to the North Country for over 35 years at two locations.
After graduating from Georgetown Dental School, Dr. O’Connor completed a one year General Practice Residency and moved to his native North Country in 1978 to establish his practice in Plattsburgh, NY. For 18 years Dr. O’Connor provided the area with a successful general dental office and was joined in 1996 by Dr. William Caldon; who had just completed a distinguished 20 year service in the United States Air Force. At that time, the doctor’s expanded their new practice by purchasing Dr. Robert Allen’s location in Saranac Lake, NY. Even though they took on and were practicing in an undersized antiquated building, they managed to lift the Saranac Lake practice to a high-tech quality practice; pioneering the use of computerized digital radiography.
In February of 2002, Dr. O’Connor and Dr. Caldon moved the Saranac Lake practice to its current spacious and state of the art facility in Lake Placid. They continued to grow in both locations, developing premiere practices based on high quality, state of the art technologies, fee for service care with an emphasis on prevention.
Although accepting most insurances, the Doctors pride themselves in not participating in any insurance programs allowing them to provide their excellent services without the influence of dictating clerks and bureaucrats. Our doctors routinely attend continuing education courses far surpassing New York State requirements. Their approach to continuing care and education extends to all the staff in the office who are encouraged to take any and all continuing education courses of interest that can improve the practice.

From the best-selling book FISH! Philosophy by Stephen C. Lundin, Ph. D., Harry Paul and John Christensen:
Be There: When people need you, they need all of you. Setting aside distractions and judgments to be fully present is a sign of respect. It improves communication and strengthens relationships.
Play: You can be serious about your work without taking yourself so seriously. Play is a mindset more than a specific activity. It allows you to throw yourself with enthusiasm and creativity into whatever you are doing, in a way that is natural, not forced. “Playing” with ideas helps you find solutions to everyday challenges.
Make Their Day: Simple gestures of thoughtfulness, thanks and recognition make people feel appreciated and valued. When you make someone else feel good, you feel good too.
Choose Your Attitude: To actually choose how you respond to life, not just react, you must be intentional. When you get up, decide who you want to “be” today. Moment-to-moment awareness is key. Ask yourself throughout the day, “What is my attitude right now? Is it helping the people who depend on me? Is it helping me to be most effective?”
